Australian Camp & Dhampus

Who this is for

Drive to Kande, then a short ridge walk to Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South. Sleep in Dhampus.

The closest honest overnight from Pokhara. A jeep to Kande, then forest and ridge to Australian Camp (about 2,060 m) with Machhapuchhre filling the north window. Next morning you walk into Dhampus village and drive back to the lake. Stairs, not altitude. Good after a long flight or before a bigger trek.

Itinerary

01

Pokhara to Australian Camp

Jeep to Kande, then a warm climb through forest onto the ridge. Sunset on Machhapuchhre.

02

Dhampus village, return Pokhara

Morning walk into Gurung lanes of Dhampus, then a jeep back to Lakeside.

Difficulty and altitude

Australian Camp & Dhampus is a Easy walk of 2 days, with a high point around 2060 m. We pace for acclimatisation, not a brochure summit morning.

Best time to go

Typical season: October–May. October–November and March–April are the classic Himalayan windows. We close or reroute when cloud and rain make the view a fiction.

Permits and what is included

Annapurna routes include ACAP and usually TIMS, processed in Pokhara. Restricted valleys (Mustang, Manaslu, Tsum, Nar Phu) add a RAP filed through immigration. The quote lists permit days; there is no surprise at the checkpoint.
